Two new grads join CNH Architects team

CNH Architects, Inc. announces the hiring of two full-time team members, Elizabeth (Liz) Elton and Jessica (Jess) Harter. Elton is an interior designer and Harter is an architectural designer.

Both are May 2020 college graduates, Elton with a Bachelor of Science degree in interior design from the University of Minnesota and Harter with a Master of Architecture degree from North Dakota State University.

Elton’s full-time role might be new to CNH, but her presence is not. She has served as an interior design intern at the firm since the summer of 2019, working part-time through the 2020 school year.

An Apple Valley local, she is looking forward to having everyone back together in the office. (CNH staffers have been working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)

“I enjoy working and learning from everyone in the office. It’s a fun work environment to be in. It’s been a fun year to be at CNH, as we celebrated our 50th anniversary. I got to learn a lot about the history of our firm and I’m very excited to see where the future takes us,” she said.

“I am very pleased to have Liz join our firm full-time, expanding our interior design team.  She brings excellent design skills and a flair for visual communications that will benefit all of the projects she works on,” said CNH Principal Quinn Hutson.

Harter, a native of Fargo, North Dakota, comes to CNH after focusing on sustainability throughout her architectural studies at NDSU. Sustainability, of course, is a defining pillar of CNH Architects mission and values.

“I’m excited to be working at CNH Architects,” she said. “I have always advocated for creating a healthier environment through educating my colleagues and community about green design and lifestyle habits. I look forward to the opportunities CNH Architects has in store for me and what I can provide for them.”

“We are thrilled to have Jessica join our architectural design staff and look forward to the impact she will have on our firm as we continue to grow the CNH team,” said CNH Principal Brooke Jacobson.

BURNSVILLE FIRE STATION NO. 1

CNH’s largest fire station to date, the City of Burnsville’s Fire Station No. 1 is home to a crew of all full-time firefighters and more than 44,000 SF with 10 apparatus bays. Firefighter safety was one of nine top priorities for the station. Multiple contamination zones and a designated de-contamination area will allow firefighters to keep contaminated equipment and clothing in the apparatus bay until decontaminated. Another priority in the design was firefighter mental health. A warning system that slowly ramps up with alert tones and lighting while only alerting responding staff ensures firefighters are not awoken in an abrupt manner. The station includes areas for relaxation with different lighting to promote natural sleep rhythms, as well as a yoga studio and meditation garden. Extensive firefighter training features including Firefighter 1 and advanced training elements are another highlight of the station.
