Breaking Ground in Lakeville: Fire Station No. 2

Construction is underway on Lakeville’s new Fire Station No. 2, following a groundbreaking ceremony held May 18, 2026.

The event brought together city leadership and project partners – including Mayor Luke Hellier and Fire Chief Mike Meyer, who spoke about the importance of the project and its impact on the community. Police officers, firefighters, CNH Architects, and RJM Construction were all in attendance to celebrate the start of construction.

The new station is a key component of Lakeville’s Fire Department Modernization initiative – a long-term effort to improve response times, update aging facilities, and support a transition to a full-time staffing model.

A More Efficient System

Located at 17624 Dodd Boulevard, the new facility will consolidate Lakeville’s existing Stations 2 and 4 into a single, strategically located hub. This shift reduces the system from four stations to three, improving operational efficiency and strengthening coverage in a critical service area. The site itself, adjacent to existing municipal infrastructure, positions crews for faster response in a growing part of the city.

Purpose-Built for Service

The new Fire Station No. 2 is designed to support both current operations and future needs. The facility will accommodate modern apparatus, training functions, and administrative space, along with living quarters required for 24/7 staffing.

A key focus of the design is firefighter health and safety. Dedicated decontamination areas and clearly defined operational zones help reduce exposure risks, integrating best practices directly into the building layout.

Looking Ahead

The groundbreaking marks more than the start of a building – it reflects a coordinated investment in public safety, driven by collaboration between the city, the fire department, and the project teams. The result will be a facility that supports those who serve while improving the level of service delivered to the Lakeville community.

BURNSVILLE FIRE STATION NO. 1

CNH’s largest fire station to date, the City of Burnsville’s Fire Station No. 1 is home to a crew of all full-time firefighters and more than 44,000 SF with 10 apparatus bays. Firefighter safety was one of nine top priorities for the station. Multiple contamination zones and a designated de-contamination area will allow firefighters to keep contaminated equipment and clothing in the apparatus bay until decontaminated. Another priority in the design was firefighter mental health. A warning system that slowly ramps up with alert tones and lighting while only alerting responding staff ensures firefighters are not awoken in an abrupt manner. The station includes areas for relaxation with different lighting to promote natural sleep rhythms, as well as a yoga studio and meditation garden. Extensive firefighter training features including Firefighter 1 and advanced training elements are another highlight of the station.
