ROY WILKINS MEMORIAL RESTORATION

Dedicated in 1995, the memorial was in need of some refreshment. CNH worked with Capital Area Architectural and Planning Board (CAAPB) and an art preservation specialist to determine the best approach for repairs and repatinization.

In four months the following work was completed:

METRO SELF STORAGE - COON RAPIDS, MN

CNH Architects designed a 129,000 sf self-storage facility for Metro Self Storage in Coon Rapids. It’s the first of Metro’s storage facilities to be built with CNH’s innovative design. This prototype design features the use of precast concrete panels and metal bar joists for the structure and envelope of the building. They are 903 storage units in total.

GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH - APPLE VALLEY, MN

The goals of the congregation were to replace and expand outdated classrooms, expand storage, create areas for gathering and unclog the entry, and improve visibility of the church and front entrance from the road and parking lot. The two story addition with a partial basement provides over 22,000 square feet of new space focusing on education, youth, and hospitality needs. By maintaining a consistent color palette, the new building’s exterior of matching brick and colored stucco provides a fresh look while blending well as a whole.

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH - COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, MN

This project consisted of major renovation and additions to the existing building. It required relocating functions within the old and new spaces. CNH Architects conducted space needs studies, developed a master plan, and prepared numerous preliminary alternatives for discussion. Included in the project were major improvements such as fire protection, code compliance, and mechanical and electrical work. The project was completed under the cost estimate.

SAINT ANDREWS LUTHERAN CHURCH - GRAND RAPIDS, MN

CNH designed the original building on a beautiful wooded site in Grand Rapids, MN. With the sanctuary looking out over a virgin pine forest, this building takes full advantage of its location.

ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH - ALEXANDRIA, MN

This project included a new gym/multi-purpose space along with offices, entry, elevator, daycare, sanctuary, lobby, and narthex, fellowship hall and major remodeling throughout.

MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH - HOFFMAN, MN

This project was born when three local congregations decided to merge together, forming one larger worship community. With input from each of the original churches, the entirely new facility has a contemporary design but draws on traditional influences, as well. The sanctuary is designed to accommodate up to 400 people.

BURNSVILLE FIRE STATION NO. 1

CNH’s largest fire station to date, the City of Burnsville’s Fire Station No. 1 is home to a crew of all full-time firefighters and more than 44,000 SF with 10 apparatus bays. Firefighter safety was one of nine top priorities for the station. Multiple contamination zones and a designated de-contamination area will allow firefighters to keep contaminated equipment and clothing in the apparatus bay until decontaminated. Another priority in the design was firefighter mental health. A warning system that slowly ramps up with alert tones and lighting while only alerting responding staff ensures firefighters are not awoken in an abrupt manner. The station includes areas for relaxation with different lighting to promote natural sleep rhythms, as well as a yoga studio and meditation garden. Extensive firefighter training features including Firefighter 1 and advanced training elements are another highlight of the station.
