CNH Architects recently co-hosted, alongside the City of Chaska and RJM Construction, a tour of Chaska’s Public Safety Facility for regional fire, police, and city administration leaders, offering a firsthand look at how design decisions translate into real-world impact. We extend our sincere thanks to the fire, police, and city leaders who joined us for the recent tour and helped make it such a meaningful exchange.
Built with purpose, backed by community
Part of Chaska’s long-term, building-by-building improvement plan, the facility replaces an undersized police station from 1987 and an aging fire station from 1996. Strong community support helped advance the project as a nearly 100,000-square-foot campus designed for a growing city. A pivotal moment came when analysis revealed new construction would cost the same as renovating – allowing the team to deliver a fully adaptable, future-ready solution.
One facility, fully integrated
For the first time, police and fire operate under one roof – improving coordination, response, and day-to-day efficiency. The design prioritizes operational flow and was shaped directly by staff input, ensuring each space supports how teams actually work while positioning the departments for future growth.
Designed around real-world demands of the job
From the beginning, the police side was shaped by how officers work, featuring staff-informed layouts, secure and efficient workflows, and dedicated training spaces that strengthen preparedness while resolving long-standing space and functionality challenges.
The fire station side was equally intentional, centered on firefighter health and daily realities – separating gear from living areas to reduce exposure, incorporating overnight quarters, and integrating training spaces to support readiness and long-term well-being.
Function meets identity
Operational efficiency guided every planning decision, while material choices connect past and present. Original Chaska brick is featured prominently in the lobby alongside a historical display, reinforcing a sense of place within a modern facility.
Delivered through strong partnerships
Construction began in April 2024 and involved more than 40 trade partners, with the building operational by March 2026. Collaboration between the City, CNH Architects, and RJM Construction was marked by strong alignment and a shared commitment to long-term success.
Designed for what’s next
Adaptability was the guiding principle throughout, ensuring the facility can evolve alongside the community it serves. A public tour is planned for fall 2026, offering the community an opportunity to experience the facility firsthand.
