Jessica Johnson Kreps serves on Richfield’s Community Services Commission

CNH Architects’ Senior Associate Jessica Johnson Kreps is passionate about community and being a part of something bigger. This led her to becoming part of Richfield’s Community Services Commission.

“Being part of a community is more important than ever right now. I enjoy connecting with my fellow Richfield citizens about our passion for making our city a better place to live in.”

This past summer she applied to be a part of the group and was then interviewed and selected by Richfield City Council members to serve a two-year term.

The Community Services Commission (CSC) is an advisory group, all of whom are members appointed by city council, to discuss and provide feedback on city issues relating to recreation, parks, public works, and any other issues as directed. The CSC either provides guidance to staff, discusses an issue with others active in the community, or formally recommends a course of action to the city council. The CSC also appoints the Board of Directors to the Friends of Wood Lake (FOWL), a fund-raising organization for the Wood Lake Nature Center.

Johnson Kreps has lived in Richfield for four years and says her architectural knowledge and skill definitely plays a part in being a member of the CSC.

“Working in architecture means working alongside residents and business owners to collaboratively shape the built environment and this is another way to get involved in the community,” she explained.

“My interest in being part of the community started when I was in architecture school and learning about the built environment, sustainability, and urban planning. I realized that being an architect means being part of the community and making it a better place to live.”

She looks forward to her involvement with the City of Richfield for the next years and beyond.

“Everyone I have met with the City of Richfield has been fantastic and you can tell they really care about their community. They are passionate about making it a safe, inclusive, and wonderful place to live. “

BURNSVILLE FIRE STATION NO. 1

CNH’s largest fire station to date, the City of Burnsville’s Fire Station No. 1 is home to a crew of all full-time firefighters and more than 44,000 SF with 10 apparatus bays. Firefighter safety was one of nine top priorities for the station. Multiple contamination zones and a designated de-contamination area will allow firefighters to keep contaminated equipment and clothing in the apparatus bay until decontaminated. Another priority in the design was firefighter mental health. A warning system that slowly ramps up with alert tones and lighting while only alerting responding staff ensures firefighters are not awoken in an abrupt manner. The station includes areas for relaxation with different lighting to promote natural sleep rhythms, as well as a yoga studio and meditation garden. Extensive firefighter training features including Firefighter 1 and advanced training elements are another highlight of the station.
