In its earlier days CNH Architects was often misheard as C&H, the more widely known sugar brand. It was popularized by television commercials with the jingle, “C&H Pure Cane sugar, is the one.”
Playing off of that branding, and throwing a creative twist into its 50th Anniversary event, staff and principals with CNH created their own sugar cube structures, some patterned after well-known buildings. A video sequence with still images of the cube creations along with pictures of the actual buildings helps users to interpret the “sweet equity” the projects required.
The miniature projects are not foreign to architects and designers, explains CNH Principal Wayne Hilbert. Professionals go through four years of design studio experience which can account for a third to half of one’s grade. “You’re spending your life in the studios,” he said. “It’s one of those things you do and you get into it. If you don’t enjoy it, than the architecture education process is probably not for you.”
