It’s been a busy winter for learning and teaching at CNH Architects. Recently, architectural designer Jess Harter spent time mentoring Eastview High School student Maddie Peick on the ins and outs of architecture. In January, architectural designer Morgan Larson mentored a student from Rosemount High School.
Â
Maddie chose to design a dog café on a site in Woodbury. Harter worked with her to pick the site, create bubble diagrams, sketches, and multiple floor and site plan options. She then spent time learning Revit (building information modeling software) to digitally model the plan. From there, Maddie explored Enscape (rendering and virtual reality software) to complete her plans with realistic finishes.
Â
“She had a little less than three months and her project turned out really well for learning everything as she went,” Harter explained.
Â
Maddie presented her plans to CNH staff, her teacher, and principal. While she plans to major in mechanical engineering in college, she stated that she really liked the creativity that goes along with architecture. Her experience at CNH will complement her future studies, as mechanical consultants work closely with architects and designers to see a project to fruition.

Maddie will graduate from Eastivew in May.
